Dr. Dobson served as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Church in Grand Rapids, Michigan for several years. He is presently a consulting editor with Leadership
Journal and a former Senior Editor for Christianity
Today, as well as a regular contributor to other
national publications. Dr. Dobson also had
the distinction of serving as a member of the consultive
group representing The World Council of Churches
in dealing with the international problem of HIV/AIDS.
He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and a Master of Arts Degree in Religion, as well as a doctorate in Higher Education from the University of Virginia. He has authored several successful books in the past few years including Simplicity: Finding Order, Freedom and Fulfillment for Your Life (Zondervan), Starting A Seeker Sensitive Service (Zondervan), The End (Zondervan), Blinded by Might (Zondervan) co-authored with nationally syndicated columnist, Cal Thomas, and was an editor of the Knowing Jesus Study Bible (Zondervan). He has recently completed writing, Finding God In the Face of Evil (Kregel).
Moody Bible Institute has honored Dr. Dobson with
their distinguished "Pastor of the Year" award.
He was the co-founder of the Emmanuel Empowerment
Corporation, which is a consortium of nine urban
pastors, who together, are tackling the issues
of the inner-city church and the unique problems
they face. He has received the Empowerment
Leadership Award in honor of Dr. Martin Luther
King, Jr., for distinguished achievement and making
a difference in social and economic development
in Grand Rapids. He has also served on the
Board of the Children's Trust Fund which is the
State of Michigan Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention
Board.
